Drama Therapy Group for Kids: Starts March 1 on Sundays

Hi Reader,

I wanted to put this on your radar because it looks like such a supportive option for some of the kids we work with.

Our upcoming Drama Therapy Group is designed for children ages 5–7 who learn best through play, imagination, and movement.

This group can be a great fit for kids who:

• Have big feelings that come out as shutdowns, meltdowns, or silliness
• struggle with transitions, flexibility, or peer dynamics
• Benefit from a safe space to be themselves in a group setting
• Have a hard time using words when emotions are big
• Benefit from creative, body-based ways of learning

Drama therapy supports emotional expression, social learning, and confidence through storytelling, pretend play, and movement. Children are not asked to perform or act for an audience. Participation is flexible and guided with care.

The group is facilitated by Mick James, who creates a warm, structured, and developmentally supportive environment where young children can practice social and emotional skills at their own pace.

The group will be held at The Real Work on Sundays. It begins March 1, and enrollment is limited to 10 kids.

What is drama therapy for young kids?
Drama therapy uses pretend play, stories, movement, and imagination to help children explore emotions, relationships, and problem-solving. It is active and experiential rather than talk-based.

Does my child need to like acting or being in the spotlight?
No. Children are never asked to perform or put on a show. Activities are playful and flexible, and kids can engage in ways that feel comfortable for them.

What kinds of challenges does this group support?
This group supports children working on emotional regulation, peer interactions, flexibility, confidence, and expressing feelings. It can be especially helpful for kids who struggle to find words when emotions are big.

Is this group neurodivergent-affirming?
Yes. Sensory needs, different communication styles, and varied levels of participation are respected. There is no pressure to mask or conform to one way of being.

How do I know if my 5–7 year old is a good fit?
If your child enjoys pretend play, stories, or movement and needs support navigating emotions or peers, this group may be a good match. Parents are always welcome to reach out with questions.

When does the group start?
The group begins March 1, and spots are limited to keep the group supportive and relational.

As always, please feel free to reply here with questions! I'm monitoring this inbox personally and am happy to help!

Warmly,

Rebekah
