Click to get "the newspaper!" and all the juicy details for June
Hi Reader,
Welcome to June's topic of interest! Let's talk intense anger, and some strategies for how to help kids who seem to go from 0-60 very quickly and who feel things deeply and it affects relationships, self-esteem, and academics.
This month, Real Work therapist Collin Alteneder, LMFT shares some of what he's learned working with boys, neurodivergent kids, and emotional regulation.
One of my favorite ideas from the article:
Children are not their emotions.
Anger is something they experience, not something they are, but kids don't usually understand that nuance.
In the article, Collin explores why anger is often one of the few emotions boys are encouraged to express, how neurodivergent kids may experience emotional overwhelm differently, and one simple thing parents can do at home to build emotional awareness.
A few other things happening around The Real Work this month:
Join us on our front lawn at 4775 SW Watson Ave, Beaverton during Beaverton's Annual Pride Event for bubbles, face painting, music, and chill vibes.
🎉 Pride in the Park — June 28
We'll be outside on our front lawn from 10am–12pm before and during the Beaverton Pride parade with face painting, bubbles, cornhole, kindness rocks, and live music from Kyndel James. We'd love to see you there.
Kimia received a hard-earned certification in Synergetic Play Therapy
🌱 Congratulations to Kimia Amirifar, LPC
Kimia recently completed her certification in Synergetic Play Therapy, a specialized training that deepens her work helping children and families navigate emotions, relationships, and growth through play.
Join us on Tuesdays for either arts and crafts or nintendo. Info on the website.
🎮 Special Interest Groups Continue
One of my favorite moments this month was seeing kids gathered around a Nintendo-themed group, connecting through shared interests and parallel play. These groups continue to remind us that belonging often starts with finding people who simply "get" you.
As always, thank you for being part of our community.
Warmly,
Rebekah
