Your monthly dose of parenting ideas, real-life wins, and resources from The Real Work therapists.

Hello hello!

August is that funny in-between: still summer, but the back-to-school countdown is real. Here’s what’s been helping us keep the joy (and our sanity).

Name it to tame it (parent edition)

💬 Real Talk: The August Feels

August can be a lot. I know I've cycled through quite a few emotions as a parent, and had to check in with my beliefs and sense of self. Here are some common feelings we'd like to name for August:

  • Lonely: Playdates have fizzled and the days feel long.
  • Burnt Out: You’ve been everywhere and are running on empty.
  • Guilty or Defeated: You didn’t do “enough” summer magic (even though you did).
  • Great but Sad it's changing: It’s been wonderful, and you’re not ready jump back into the school year.

However you’re feeling, you’re not alone. You don’t need to fix it all. Sometimes naming it is the first relief.
